Following the completion of my degree, I found myself in the difficult position of choosing the next step in life like so many others. After much deliberation and a couple of jobs later I began researching a career in financial services and quickly realised it could provide me with the autonomy and flexibility that I desire so much.

The next step was deciding how to go about getting qualified to level-4 diploma standard. It appeared to be the choice between self-study or applying for a place on a training scheme at one of the large national advisory companies. I opted for the self-study route, so I could continue to work while studying and ordered my first set of training material and purchased the R02 exam. About a week into studying, I realised that having the textbook alone wouldn’t provide me with the motivation and personal learning experience which I needed to pass the exam in a timely manner.

This is when I subscribed to the Lowes Academy for R02 which was offering weekly webinars online with a small group of other learners combined with their own tailored workbooks. The workbooks breakdown the rather large daunting syllabus into manageable weekly loads that are written in a succinct and comprehensive manner. Each book contains questions throughout which pushed me to engage more so than I had been while independently studying. The weekly webinars are designed to go through the workbook material and also provide an open forum for the whole group to ask questions and engage with one another. The two teachers I had throughout R02 were very knowledgeable and approachable, making it clear from the outset that it was okay to ask for help at any time via email.

This testimonial comes a day after I sat and passed my R02 exam with a result I could not have achieved had I continued down the self-study route. I’m looking forward to continuing my studying with the Lowes Academy in the new year and I’m fully confident that with their professional training I can begin my new career in financial planning a lot quicker and equipped with much more knowledge than I originally thought.
